Garlic, Butter, Bread and Basil. Really could you ask for anything more? Freshly baked bread smothered with basil infused butter, sprinkled with finely chopped garlic and then baked for a few minutes to melt everything in and slightly toast the bread. This is the ultimate garlic bread. The basil brings it to a whole new level.
I’ve been off the bread for the past few weeks, so I decided if I was going to make an exception, it was going to be well worth it. I picked up some freshly baked bread from Bay Cities, this amazing Italian market here in Santa Monica. Basically it’s like the best place in the world. And if you’re in town visiting for a bit, it’s worth a trip. They have amazing ingredients, freshly made sandwiches that will rock your world, and piping hot bread every few hours that makes the store smell incredible. So after grabbing some fresh bread, and perhaps a pound of burrata (only the best cheese on earth to make one of these flatbreads for my fiancee) I headed home to whip up some life changing garlic bread!
Basil Buttered Garlic Bread
Ingredients
- 1 loaf fresh bread ciabatta preferred
- 1/3 cup butter at room temp
- 20 fresh basil leaves
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Cut the loaf of bread in half lengthwise and set on a baking sheet.
- In a food processor combine the butter, basil, garlic and salt. Pulse for a few seconds until everything is evenly distributed through the butter. Remove the mixture from the food processor and set aside.
- Generously spread the butter on both sides of the bread. Place the two halves into the oven and bake for 10 minutes until the butter is melted and then edges of the bread are just getting toasted. Remove from oven, cut and serve.
i’ll take 3 whole loaves for myself please 🙂
Oh how I could live off of bread and butter alone. Seriously!
Duuuuude, yes please.
Genius! I am all over this!
mmmm….garlic stays with me for days after eating it…but this looks so worth it.
What a simple but smart tweak on a classic. Noms!
This looks unbelievably delicious. I need it in my life asap. The buratta would be nice too. 🙂
Bread, butter & basil? I ♥ you.
If you’re going to eat bread, it better be good. This one looks like a diet-break-worthy nibble!
What could be better than garlic bread….THIS!!!
Oh Gaby. I have been trying really hard to be off the bread too, but come on! this looks so freaking goood, now all I can think about is whether I have time to squeeze in making this for tonight!
so how fun was writing FIANCEE!?
So glad you are home & that you had a great trip! Love this pesto-y bread!
I had garlic bread last night…without basil sadly. I gotta try that!
that looks droolicious!.. why dint i put some pesto on to garlic bread before!
As a garlic bread fiend I have to say it’s never occurred to me to add basil – that of course is going to change after reading this post!
This bread makes me really sad that my basil plant has had it – the last frost did it in. I agree, if you going to get back on the bread wagon do it up big:-)
Yum! Thinking it would all be terribly moreish!
