Basil Buttered Garlic Bread

Jump to Recipe

Garlic, Butter, Bread and Basil. Really could you ask for anything more? Freshly baked bread smothered with basil infused butter, sprinkled with finely chopped garlic and then baked for a few minutes to melt everything in and slightly toast the bread. This is the ultimate garlic bread. The basil brings it to a whole new level.

I’ve been off the bread for the past few weeks, so I decided if I was going to make an exception, it was going to be well worth it. I picked up some freshly baked bread from Bay Cities, this amazing Italian market here in Santa Monica. Basically it’s like the best place in the world. And if you’re in town visiting for a bit, it’s worth a trip. They have amazing ingredients, freshly made sandwiches that will rock your world, and piping hot bread every few hours that makes the store smell incredible. So after grabbing some fresh bread, and perhaps a pound of burrata (only the best cheese on earth to make one of these flatbreads for my fiancee) I headed home to whip up some life changing garlic bread!

  • 1 loaf fresh bread ciabatta preferred
  • 1/3 cup butter at room temp
  • 20 fresh basil leaves
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Cut the loaf of bread in half lengthwise and set on a baking sheet.
  • In a food processor combine the butter, basil, garlic and salt. Pulse for a few seconds until everything is evenly distributed through the butter. Remove the mixture from the food processor and set aside.
  • Generously spread the butter on both sides of the bread. Place the two halves into the oven and bake for 10 minutes until the butter is melted and then edges of the bread are just getting toasted. Remove from oven, cut and serve.
