January 3rd!! Let’s kick today off with my Banana Blueberry Smoothies which I make basically every morning for breakfast!
If you’re a longtime reader of What’s Gaby Cooking then you’re well aware that I’m all about balance. One day I’m having birthday cake, and the next I’m powering up with a delicious farmers market salad. It’s all about keeping things fresh, balanced and delicious – and it always starts with breakfast!
Banana Blueberry smoothies appear on the regular in the WGC kitchen. They are loaded with superfoods to get me going in the morning and I find that when I start the day on a healthy note, it keeps me energized and happy all day long without loading on the calories! Plus having a healthy, protein filled, breakfast means it’s okay to break off a piece of dark chocolate mid-day for a little sweet treat – because after all, it’s all about balance!! Also, one should never deny themselves some chocolate ☺
You just need a few simple ingredients for this one – a banana, frozen blueberries (using frozen blueberries allows you to cut out the ice so your smoothie doesn’t get watery), a touch of almond milk, a mixture of my favorite seeds and some almond butter for extra protein! The result is a perfectly gorgeous smoothie that will keep you 100% happy until lunch! It also doubles as an epic dessert, just saying!

Just tried this for the first time and it was soo good! I had Nuttzo on hand and used that instead of the seeds because it already had chia and flax.
Thanks for a great recipe! Will make again!
I practically make this everyday.
Just made this for the first time and I think I’m hooked! Love the almond butter in there and the crunch of the chia seeds. Also added a little protein powder.
I have been making this smoothie often and it’s amazing!!! I add a scoop of Vanilla Nutrimeal which a great protein and sweetens it a bit. Delish!!! Thank you!!!
I read somewhere to freeze both the blueberries and the banana to make the smoothie. NOTE TO SELF: Peel the banana before freezing…..
I certainly use frozen blueberries when making this – but I find that a frozen banana makes it too slushy so I just use a fresh, unfrozen PEELED banana 🙂
Have made this many times and love it! The nut butter I have has chia and flax already in it so that makes it so much easier.
My go to smoothie!
Day 3 of drinking Banana Blueberry Smoothie for breakfast. Love it!
Drink it every darn day!
Healthy and delicious! This is my go to blueberry smoothie ! I add a scoop of collagen powder too
This is my go to smoothie. So delicious!
Such a beautiful color!! The perfect start to the morning.
So good, thank you!!!
Since COVID-19 I have been working from home and been making this smoothie for breakfast. It’s definitely gotten me out of my breast rut. I have been trying to find ways to shake things at home especially with my recipe rotation. This smoothie breathed some new life into my morning routine.
I have even gotten a little a crazy added some spinach to my smoothie. Thank you for such a delicious recipe
What can I substitute for the banana?
Gaby,
I absolutely love your recipes and weekly meal plans! My daughter has started a strict diet counting calories…I wish your recipes included nutritional information. I know you are all about balance… and it will be easy to use your recipes when she gets to maintenance…just wish it was easier to use then now too.
Thanks for your awesom blog and recipes!
Tammy
I bet you could upload the recipe to the MyFitnessPal app and it should calculate nutritional information for you
This is a winner
Just made this, and I am in LOVE! Thank you!
It’s easy and delicious! I added spinach too and my 5 year old son pretty much stole the smoothie from my hands as often as I’d let him. Next time I have to double the recipe!
This might be the yummiest smoothie I’ve ever had. Definitely the best one I’ve ever made at home! I freeze blueberries all the time because I overbuy and then can’t eat them all before they’re about to go bad, so I always have a stash. Used unsweetened vanilla almond milk, RX vanilla almond butter (which has additional protein), and extra chia because I didn’t have flax seeds. The Vitamix had it super smooth in like 15 seconds. This is def going in my regular rotation!
Hi! Does this recipe make 1 or 2 servings?

I don’t know anything about the benefit of those seeds. Can you elaborate on what they do for you?
Thanks.
So good – my new morning beverage.
I love this smoothie. I also add spinach to help make my daily vege servings. Doesn’t change the taste, but it is not as beautiful a color as yours is.
I love this easy, delicious smoothie! I’ve been making it almost every morning before work!!
OMG! This is such a tasty smoothie. My kids who are picky about smoothies love it too! Love you and love your recipes!
