Banana Blueberry Smoothies

Jump to Recipe

January 3rd!! Let’s kick today off with my Banana Blueberry Smoothies which I make basically every morning for breakfast!

If you’re a longtime reader of What’s Gaby Cooking then you’re well aware that I’m all about balance. One day I’m having birthday cake, and the next I’m powering up with a delicious farmers market salad. It’s all about keeping things fresh, balanced and delicious – and it always starts with breakfast!

Banana Blueberry smoothies appear on the regular in the WGC kitchen. They are loaded with superfoods to get me going in the morning and I find that when I start the day on a healthy note, it keeps me energized and happy all day long without loading on the calories! Plus having a healthy, protein filled, breakfast means it’s okay to break off a piece of dark chocolate mid-day for a little sweet treat – because after all, it’s all about balance!! Also, one should never deny themselves some chocolate ☺

You just need a few simple ingredients for this one – a banana, frozen blueberries (using frozen blueberries allows you to cut out the ice so your smoothie doesn’t get watery), a touch of almond milk, a mixture of my favorite seeds and some almond butter for extra protein! The result is a perfectly gorgeous smoothie that will keep you 100% happy until lunch! It also doubles as an epic dessert, just saying!

  2. I always have a much better day when I start it with a smoothie. These look so pretty. And obviously delicious.

    1. Beautiful..and very tasty…much more healthier than fried potatows..gravy eggs and buscuits..ha..maybe not as good..especially if your a country girl..but hey..if we dont take care of our bodies…who is..

  3. Banana blueberry smoothies are a new concept to me. But I love both fruits… So now it’s a must-try if I have the ingredients around! 🙂

  4. My blueberry bushes are loaded and Chobani is my go to yogurt. I see a delicious smoothie in my very near future!!

  5. Such a filling and healthful breakfast! I don’t have any chia seeds, but I do have flax seeds, which I’m hoping will be a fine substitute. Great recipe!

  6. I have been on a really big smoothie kick. I think I will have one of these for breakfast!

  7. I am totally in love with the simplicity and flavors (and photos) of this smoothie! I was playing around over on foodgawker and just couldn’t resist clicking over to check out this post because it was so pretty!

  8. Along with the idea of freezing the blueberries so the ice doesn’t have to be used, freeze the banana as well. What you get is a creamy, frozen smoothie!

  9. Random question, but….where is that straw from? I like using straws for smoothies, but I can’t bring myself to use disposable straws at home.

  10. I absolutely love this smoothie!! I also throw in kale or spinach just for the extra nutrition. You can’t taste it, and I feel I’m feeding my fifty something year old body something really good. Thank you for a wonderful smoothie recipe!!

  11. I would live to get my day started with this delicious smoothie! Love the color and the how easy it is to make!

  12. so freezing the bloobs are enough
to make it creamy and thick…the banana doesn’t need freezing?
    love that color!
    thnx!

  13. This recipe”s a keeper! I didn’t have any almond milk so, I used unsweetened coconut milk instead. Increased the flax and chia seeds to 1 tbsp each. Added a little bit of vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg to season. So yummy!

  14. I need more blueberry banana smoothies that is easy 2 make so I can start making smoothies that I can drink

  15. I’ve been making this smoothie minus the almond butter for about a month now and I love it! Here I thought I was doing something “different” haha. Sometimes I add a tbsp of peanut butter to it as well.

  16. Hi Gaby,
I’ve had this a bunch, it’s amazing. I’ve taken a break from smoothie because my roommate isn’t up in time before I leave for work for me to make them…I’m wondering if in your opinion it would work if I made it the night before and placed it in an air tight container (probably a mason jar) and then had it the next morning? Or would it separate? Any thoughts you have would be awesome, thank you!!

    1. Hey!! I’ve done that before and I’ll be totally honest – it’s not as good. It separates a little but that’s fixable when you stir it. The reason I don’t love it is because it’s not ice cold and just tastes a little different 🙂 I wonder what would happen if you froze it the night before and then ate it like ice cream the next morning!

  17. I just made this smoothie and I used blueberries that were fresh not frozen. The smoothie is actually like a brown now… Not as pretty. I will have to try it with frozen next time!

  18. Sounds like a tasty recipe and one I will definitely be trying. On a side not, it is possible to freeze your smoothie for later consumption. I use a ball glass jar and make sure to leave plenty of space in the jar for expansion.

  19. Going to try this recipe! Love that you can get the ingredients at TJs! Question, Do you happen to know the nutritional value, like how much protein/fiber are in these smoothies? Thank you!

  20. This is my favorite smoothie ever…… I make this so much, I am doing to become a blueberry. Thanks Gaby!
