Sweet Potato Day

Here’s the deal. I love food blogging. I love developing new recipes for you guys. I love sharing weird and quirky stories with you guys. I love making friends through the food blog. And I love all of you guys, my awesome, funny, fabulous readers. One of the best parts of food blogging is this awesome community of fellow food bloggers. And today, I’m so jazzed to be part of a wonderful group of people who are coming together to support ONE. Have you heard about ONE. It’s am amazing organization that I am thrilled to be supporting today.

ONE is a grassroots advocacy and campaigning organization that fights extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa, by raising public awareness and pressuring political leaders to support smart and effective policies and programs that are saving lives, helping to put kids in school and improving futures. Cofounded by Bono and other campaigners, ONE is nonpartisan and works closely with African activists and policy makers.

Have I ever told you guys that before I got into food, I was pre-med for most of college and had I followed through with it, I was going to pack my bags and head to Africa for a year or two to volunteer. I am fully aware that there are plenty of places I could have gone to volunteer, but Africa always was my top pick. And although I’ve never been there, I can tell you that I am fascinated by the country, the people and the culture in Africa. I need to get over there stat. Hopefully in the very near future there is a volunteer trip I can go on and then round things off with a little great white shark sight seeing at the end. (I’m weird. We’ve already established that long ago)

Anyways, back to ONE. Today is all about spreading awareness for ONE’s mission to increase awareness about world hunger. It’s a serious problem and there is plenty that we can do to help. One EASY and free way to support is to click over to ONE’s food page and just sign the petition and help get our leaders to step up and fight for good nutrition today. Done and done. Now that was easy wasn’t it?

Another way to help is to spread some serious sweet potato love. Nutrition is the hidden killer of nearly 2 million children around the world. The sweet potato is serving as the mascot for our cause and we’re going to make it famous! Packed with nutrition and blessed with the ability to grow in many places, the sweet potato is literally saving lives.

So on that note…. Happy Sweet Potato Day!

  1. I love seeing bloggers come together to support a cause! My family and I live in Namibia, Africa as missionaries and I see the hunger issue around me every day everywhere. We have people on the street ask us for food all the time. It’s so sad to see the hurt on these people’s eyes. My parents minister to some kids that used to live out in a dumping site and now the kids go to school! After school, they get help with homework and a sandwich. And the food that we give them is probably the only food they get. Anyways! Long story short. I see the problem firsthand every day, and it is a cause I’m happy to help!

    Keep up the great work.
