Tabasco Refried Beans

Jump to Recipe

Bring it on for day 2 of the Tabasco Challenge! I wanted to incorporate Tabasco into regular things I eat on a normal basis. No crazy off the wall stuff here! Weā€™ve gotta make things that we LOVE! Therefore, let’s make someĀ Tabasco Refried Beans!

Tabasco Refried Beans

Re-fried beans are a way of life in our house. These are a regular occurrence for me. Occasionally when Iā€™m feeling extra lazy, Iā€™ll just eat some refried beans doused in salsa and top it with avocado. Itā€™s seriously one of my favorite meals.

Making your own refried beans is actually way easy and requires little to no effort or monitoring. And if you have an immersion blender, it makes this task even easier. Iā€™m all about making your life in the kitchen less stressful and easy ā€“ and these beans 100% fit that bill.

It all starts with some sautƩed onion, as most things do! Then you just cook up a big pot of dried pinto beans, drain them off, add in some Tabasco hot sauce and finish it off with some cheddar cheese and salt as needed. Great thing about using Tabasco is you can give these beans as much spice as you want. I start it off with just about 2 teaspoons of hot sauce, but Thomas likes things extra spicy, so he adds a few more dashes on top.

I think we can all agree that we are into that, right?

Tabasco Re-fried Beans

Ingredients

  • 3 cups dried pinto beans
  • 1 yellow onion finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Original Tabasco
  • Ā½ cup shredded cheddar
  • salt as needed

Instructions

  • Rinse the dried beans in water making sure to get rid of any excess dirt.
  • Add the beans to a large pot and cover with water. (Make sure there is about 4 inches of water above the dried beans ā€“ they will soak up a lot of water)
  • Bring the water to a boil and the cover and reduce to a simmer. Cook the beans for 2 1/2 hours.
  • Once the beans are cooked, drain the excess water and set aside.
  • In a large skillet add the olive oil over medium high heat. SautĆ© the onions for about 5 minutes. Add in the drained beans and Tabasco and 1 cup of water. Using an immersion blender, lightly blend the beans until they have a consistency of mashed beans. Add the cheddar cheese and stir in until it's melted. Season with salt as needed and serve.

  1. HOW TO CLEAR GAZS FROM YOUR DRIED BEANS

    1. Make sure to soak the beans in a lot of water for 8-12 hours, replacing the water and washing the beans once in the middle.

    2. Drain the water, wash the beans with fresh water, place them in a large pot and bring to boil. Repeat (2) once again.

Now your beans is ready for cooking, and your night will be FLIRTY rather than “FARTy”

    1. NOTE

In (2), the beans should be placed in a large pot with WATER to cover and a little moreā€¦
