Today’s quite an exciting day!
One of my dear dear friends, Catherine, you might know her from Weelicious, is coming out with her 2nd cookbook Weelicious Lunches! And I think we should celebrate by giving some away don’t you think?
Weelicious Lunches is PACKED with recipes that will literally make your kids lunches the envy of everyone around. These are simple, delicious and healthy recipes that please not only kids… but adults too! I’ve already put in my order with Catherine so I can start picking up my lunches every morning. It’s happening. I’ll even bring my own lunch box.
Let’s take a peek inside shall we?
These grilled cheese croutons are a MUST!
Or how about this world’s greatest pb&j!! heck yes – any kid would love this! And you could sub out any of your fav nut butters if needed.
I mean, pizza balls!! Is there anything we can even say about these? They are freaking awesome.
banana dog bites for the win!
and then there’s the homemade chocolate hazelnut spread. I’m literally drooling.
Bottom line. We all need this book, regardless if we have kids or not! I mean, I’m seriously going to start sending Thomas to work with some of these ideas from Catherine.
So, in honor of such an exciting day, I voted and and the results are in. I guess there really aren’t any other opposing votes to count since it’s just me, but whatever… details shmeetails. Let’s give away some books!
Leave a comment on this post letting me know what you used to eat for your school lunches and you’re automatically entered! I’ll pick 3 winners and we’ll send you you book ASAP. Contest goes through Friday September 6th just before midnight!
Ready, set, go!
When I wasn’t eating the tasteless school lunch in middle school and high school I ate awesome food. By then, we were allowed to go out for lunch as long as we made it back before the bell rang. Some days my friends and I had some good latino food, just like home, and other days we had fresh delicious Italian pizza from the local pizzeria. We had great places to choose from!:)

My mom would put cream cheese in a slice of salami and roll it up for my lunch! I thought it was super weird but it was way better than peanut butter and jelly.
I remember always getting nachos from the snack bar in highschool.
I packed a lunch for school, turkey sandwich 🙂
My favorite was cold grilled cheese sandwiches and carrot sticks! I also loves it when my mom would put a note and some stickers in my lunch bag!
I’m British, so I SUFFERED! At my first school we had hot lunches brought in in containers from a central kitchen. They were variable, some were really good, such as the roast dinners, but there were some truly dire ones too. One teacher used to try to make us eat everything on our plates, no matter how disgusting, but we had ways… I’m sure whoever did the washing up hated us big time. There were also 1/3 pint bottles of milk every morning, but there was no refrigeration for it so it was cold in winter and warm in summer… Luckily, that was stopped after age 11!
At my next school, there was nameless mince (that’s hamburger to you) served in a variety of ways. After a year or so I started to take sandwiches made by my mother, also variable. At the final school the food was so good it was difficult to tear oneself away to go to the bakery around the corner for pies, pasties and their speciality, bread pudding. The best dish there was a desert, a gorgeous fudge tart, which i would love to recreate some day.
So in summary: roast dinner at my first school, and fudge tart at the last, with bread pudding from the bakery!
I never had lunch boxes since I was a residential student. I used to eat peanut butter sandwich if there is ‘yucky food’.
How about trying grilled deli turkey and chicken sandwich just like u would do with grilled cheese sandwich. Add pepperoni and mozzarella cheese to sandwich and dip it in pizza sauce. My son loves it. Looking forward for your new recipes I’d like to try.
My grandma would make fried egg sandwiches.
My favorite “stages” of bringing lunch was when it was cool to eat dry ramen noodles and jello….
I also had bologna sandwiches and pb&j – not to mention a devil dog in my lunch!
My school had a giaaaant kitchen I we had lunch there.
My favorite was when we had pizza! 🙂 A shame that only was on special occasions
PB&J, chips & Hostess Cupcakes or Ding Dongs. I grew up in the 60’s/70’s.
Peanut butter and jelly was my thing! 🙂
PB&J… all the time!!
I either had PB&J or bought the yummy school lunches
I loved PB&J sandwiches and I still do.
My mom made us delish lunches every single day. Yummy sandwich, piece of fruit, and a brownie or cookie for dessert.
The only time I took lunch was when we went on a field trip. Then it was off to the deli for a baloney sandwich with a YooHoo!
I usually had a sandwich…. PB&J or whatever luncheon meat was in the fridge…
I had leftovers and sandwiches. And ironically, I still do that today.
We were a “low income” family (read: poor folk) so we qualified for assisted school lunches. On Fridays the cooks made oatmeal or chocolate chip cookies. It’s a banner day when one of the tray slots is for dessert !!
I was homeschooled and we did a lot of leftovers and sandwiches. 🙂
I either had a PB&Honey or bologna sandwich. Many times it was just peanut butter. Still a good choice today! <3
My mom would make pb&J or pb and banana sandwiches. Love them still
We used to eat cheese toasties and cardboard pizza…HAHAH! I LOVE Catherine’s site and would love to win a copy of her cookbook!
The square “sausage” pizza and corn. I still remember the unpleasant taste of both of these cafeteria staples! It’s a flavor and texture burned in my mind. Oily, stinky, gross. So happy I can provide my kids with better choices!
I used to eat the school hot lunch! I wanted so bad to bring my lunch but as a child of a single mother with 5 kids hot lunch was free. I make my kids lunches and they love it! I need new ideas and this book would be awesome:)
I used to eat bologna or salami sandwiches or the occasional pb&j.
Always had a sandwich with some filling or another…bag of chips…piece of fruit. These days, I have one of the pickiest eaters on the planet to pack lunch for and it literally gives me heart palpitations. Would LOVE to have this book for inspiration!!
Ham and cheese with a Sunny D…everyday!
Rykrisp with tuna or mayo and farmer’s cheese…oh the memories!
Bologna and cheese on white bread!
pb&j, fluffernutter, ham sandwich, cold grilled cheese sandwiches. pickles. fruit Never chips.
Well, since my Mother was one of the “Lunch Ladies” I ate school lunch every day. And to be honest, it was good! We were very lucky having a great food service program at our school.
Always a sandwich. And it always had a processed cheese slice in it. Which always happened to be melted and soggy by the time I went to eat it at lunch time. Gross.
Unfortunately, I bought lunch from school almost all the time so I ate a lot of weird pizza and hamburgers. YIKES. This book definitely would have been helpful then!
After waaaay to many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, I started living off of caramel rice cakes with peanut butter.
We ate school lunches.
I remember always getting little Debbie oatmeal creme pies in my lunch 🙂 should try and make those from scratch.

PB&J’s and chocolate milk from the cafeteria!
I was lucky to have my mom fix me a fresh lunch every morning-although I didn’t know how lucky I was at the time. Now that I am a mom, I appreciate it even more! My lunch usually consisted of homemade flour tortilla tacos filled with either beef picadillo or eggs, bacon, and potatoes.
I ate PB&Js almost everyday. I’m hoping to give my son a little more variety!
In high school I used to bring my own version of a lunchable… kraft cheese slices, ritz crackers, and sliced turkey. I can’t remember what else. Probably LIttle Debbie’s snack cakes! 🙂
I used to buy a lot….. I remember pizza and grilled cheese sandwiches
Tuna on challah with a frozen Capri sun that was perfect temperature by lunch time
We were hot lunch kids! It was always an exciting day when we got to bring cold lunch (and sadly an even better day when we got to get lunchables!!)
Lots of pb&j and ham sandwiches, all on wonder bread!
I had lots of sandwiches, fruit, veggies and sometimes my Mother’s baked cookies.
My Parents didn’t believe in processed foods back then so I never got the taste for it. At the time I felt left out because I was one of the few kids who didn’t bring dingdongs, chips or pop but now I thank them often for making me a good clean eater!
