Double Chocolate Chip Banana Bread from www.whatsgabycooking.com (@whatsgabycookin)

We’ve been baking a LOT these days so let’s get down to business shall we. This double chocolate chip banana bread is fantastic. It’s made in 1 bowl, so super quick and easy. It’s moist and chocolate-y and works for breakfast, snacks and dessert. And it’s obviously stuffed with plenty of chocolate chips because that’s the only smart way to eat banana bread. Then it’s just into a loaf pan and into the oven for about an hour and voila! Easy right? It’s genius if you ask me.

It’s worth noting here (although it’s noted in the recipe) that it’s best to use SUPER ripe bananas for this recipe. So ripe that there are black spots all over the usually yellow banana peels. That means the bananas are going to be sweet and mushy and easy to incorporate into the banana bread.

If you don’t have overly ripe bananas, but you do have yellow bananas on hand, I like to pop them into the freezer for a day to turn them brown. Then just take them out, thaw them out and use for the banana bread as needed!

Cuisine American
Servings 8 people

Ingredients

  • 4 overripe bananas I like to stick ripe bananas in the freezer and then let them thaw before making banana bread so I always have overripe bananas on hand
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon chocolate extract, vanilla extract works too
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Spray a 9×5-inch loaf pan with a nonstick baking spray.
  • In a large stand mixer, combine the butter and sugar and whip for 2 minutes until combined. Add the egg, scraping down the sides of the bowl to make sure everything is evenly combined. Add the extract and the bananas and mix for 30 seconds. The batter will look a little curdled, this is normal.
  • Add the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt and mix for a few seconds until the flour is evenly combines. Add the chocolate chips and give it all a quick stir.
  • Pour into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 55 to 65 minutes. Let cool for at least 30 minutes before running a knife around the perimeter of the loaf pan and inverting the banana bread and transferring the loaf onto a cooling rack. Slice and serve as needed.

  1. This would be perfect for making veggie burgers! And so much more! Omg I would probably use it just about every day… I would absolutely love this! I often cook for several people at a time and am low budget, anything to help make things easier is amazing!

  2. What a great kitchen tool!! I could use this with my 5 hungry boys:) I would make buttermilk pancakes first!

  3. OMG! I spent four years living abroad in Australia. I came back telling all my friends about this amazing appliance lucky women have there. I was hoping one day it would appear here. Here it is!! Risotto is made amazingly easy in this, no stirring required. The machine does all the work!

  4. Regular chocolate chip banana bread for the win! and perhaps some guacamole for after because guacamole is life!

  5. I would love to have this to make some delicious soups…And of course that chocolate chip banana bread!!

  6. I love this! Since I don’t have a food processor (it’s on my registry) I only make lemon bars when I’m at my aunt’s house, so I’d make a ton of lemon bars from my own kitchen. And soups because I love a good soup.

  7. I would love to use it for all kinds of soups! Steamed veggies. O yes!!!!! But would also use it for baking and pastries! Carrot or Apple or banana bread. What about come cookies! Puff nutella pastries. Wonder how the puff pastrie dough would cone out with this machine.

  8. Soups and breads!! My two favorite things!! I actually need a mixer and food processor and I have a small kitchen so this would be perfect. Fingers crossed

  9. All-Clad = Amazing! I would use the Prep and Cook to simplify a Bolognese sauce.
I have been replacing all my old Farberware over 30 years with All-Clad cookware.

Gaby just love love your recipe for Chipotle chicken. My daughter loves it! I make it, eat it, freeze it, eat it. Thanks.

  10. I would use this for probably baking and soup mostly. I do not currently own any type of mixer so I whisk everything by hand and baking can be exhausting! Also would love to try the heating element and make my traditional Portuguese dish Soupas. Looks like this would be great for bringing to parties and keepi food warm too!

  11. I would LOVE to win this! First thing I would make is this chocolate banana bread! I have a tiny food processor and it drives me crazy! I wouldn’t know where to begin with this!!! 🙂

  12. I would make a walnut lentil pate served with creamy mushroom truffle soup with crusty bread.
I would crush using this machine and get down to business and get Betty Crocker AF.

  13. I love making these cinnamon banana date muffins so instead of using a million bowls and the food processor this would be amazing #teamdoublechocolatechipbananabread

  14. I would use the All Clad Prep and Cook to simplify my signature spaghetti bolognese. My recipe typically forces me to spend an hour in front of my stove stirring the bolognese on low heat so the sauce doesn’t turn bitter, but simmers long enough to release all the flavors.

Since the All Clad Prep and Prime would do the stirring and heating for me, it’d be the perfect solution for a dish I make at least once a week!

  15. I am a cooking gadget guru!! I love using products that save time and gets the job done!! Thank you for the great recipes!!

  16. Your recipe for Double Chocolate Chip Banana Bread (because after reading this, I made it by hand). I’m a rather lazy cook/ baker and pressed on time- it would be great to use this to make soups, garnishes, sauces to fancy up my cooking. Also frosting- can I use it to make buttercream frosting?!

  17. I am going to be a first time mom. (My baby is due in three weeks. Eeek!) I could totally use this to make baby food!

  18. This might just change the world!!! I wouldnt know what to make first! I would guess I would be making my white chicken chili in it! Sometime I make it every week! Amazing product!!!

  19. i would love to use this to make my filling for my cannelloni. It is so labor intensive to grind up 5 lbs of chicken thighs along with other ingredients!

  20. I LOVE This!!! I lived in Mexico City for 3 years and learned how to make authentic tomatillo salsa from a cute lady I became friends with. I make it and can it every year. There are many steps from simmering fresh tomatillos, to chopping onions, cilantro and garlic. It would be amazing to be able to use practically one appliance to create this yearly wonderful delicious masterpiece! I would make my Green Tomatillo Salsa!!

  21. I think this would greatly simplify my homemade chili as I could grind my own dried chiles for chili powder and tomato sauce with more chilis in one bowl instead of my food processor, which broke recently :-(, and my spices grinder.

  22. This would be absolutely wonderful to use for learning to make pastry crusts or any type of baked goods…Love zucchini bread, what an easy way to make it with this. My hubby would love to make his awesome veggie soup in it too! So many things to try it’s hard to narrow down to just one thing because everything would be so much easier with it…

  23. I would use the All Clad Prep and Cook to make breads like zucchini, pumpkin, and banana. Your double chocolate chip banana bread looks amazing. Making curries and soups would be so easy to make with this too!

  24. my favorite dessert next to anything chocolate would be cheesecake…. putting together a cheesecake recipe would be a sinch if i had one of these gadgets….

i just did my first snapisode using this recipe 🙂 in the oven as i type… .

  25. Do you think this recipe would work with non overipe bananas? Just regular yellow bananas not yet past their prime.
