Brownie and Blondie Stacks

Jump to Recipe

Sometimes I have a hard time deciding between making really fabulous rich chocolate brownies or the ever so comforting blondies. Brownies on the one hand are rich and super chocolaty, while Blondies have the decadent and goodness of all that brown sugar. So you see… its a tough decision that one must make. And while I stood in my kitchen yesterday trying to decide what I should make my boyfriend before I leave for Blogher Food I decided – what the heck- what would happen if I layer them on top of each other and call it a day! And then the blondie brownie stacks were born. I cut them into cut little hearts because well, they are for my boyfriend. And they are cute. And since they are little and cute the calories really don’t count. Right?

These two recipes are fantastic together, or separate, you choose what goes on top or bottom!

Blondie Stacks

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 tsp of vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp of baking soda

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a microwave safe bowl melt the butter and transfer into a mixing bowl. Add the brown sugar and whisk to combine. Add the vanilla and egg and continue to whisk until totally incorporated.
  • In another bowl mix together the dry ingredients, flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
  • Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until fully combined. The batter will be a bit stiff but not to worry!
  • In the same 8x8 metal pan, carefully layer the blondie brownie mixture over the brownie mixture. Bake for 20-22 minutes in a 350 degree oven or until you stick a knife in and it comes out clean.
