Have you ever had Chex Christmas Mix? It goes by many names but bottom line – it’s delicious. In the Dalkin household growing up it was just plain old mix.  And Thomas frequently references Chex Christmas Mix when he needs a batch. Bottom line – doesn’t matter what you call it – it’s EVERYTHING.

It’s a sweet and salty snack made with a combination of cheerios, rice chex, wheat chex, pretzel sticks, M&M’s and white chocolate. Image trail mix on steroids – it’s EVERYTHING. My mom’s been making this mix for us for ages, especially during the holiday season because it’s just so gorgeous and festive. I like to make big batches of this and pack it up so I can give it out as gifts around this time of year! Also – FYI – it keeps super well in the freezer.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Cheerios
  • 3 cups Rice Chex
  • 3 cups Wheat Chex
  • 2 cups Corn Chex
  • 1 cups Pretzel Sticks
  • 2-3 cups m&mโ€™s
  • 24 oz White Chocolate plus an extra 4-8 oz if needed

Instructions

  • In a large bowl combine the Cheerios, Chex, Pretzels and m&mโ€™s. Mix them up a bit, making sure that everything is evenly distributed.
  • Meanwhile, over a double boiler, melt the white chocolate according to the directions on the package.
  • Once the chocolate has melted and is a smooth consistency, drizzle the chocolate over the cereal mix and combine with a wooden spoon or hands. Make sure all the cereal is covered in chocolate. If you need to melt the extra white chocolate to cover all the mix then go right on ahead!
  • Once the entire batch has been combined, lay it out to dry on a large sheet of parchment or wax paper. Let dry for 1 hour so the chocolate is cooled and hard. Break it up into medium pieces and store in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer.

  1. I love this mix (Crack) and it is very addictive, I too put it in jars as gifts. My favorite is decorated sugar cookies.

  2. Ummmm – obviously Christmas Crack. I too have made this and didn’t know its name – we just called it chex mix with goodies.

  3. Besides being with my family for the holidays, my favorite sweet treat is my mom’s Rum Cream Pie! OMG it is good!

  4. My favorite treat for the holidays is baklava! I make it from my grandmother’s recipe with my daughter. It has become one of my favorite holiday traditions.

    Happy Holidays!!

  5. Where do I began? I love sugar cookies and mexican wedding cookies and peppermint hot chocolate just to start. Christmas is my favorite time of the year.

  6. Strufoli Italian honey bals, been asking them with my mom since I was able to walk. Like 30 + years … It’s not Christmas until we rolled, cut, fried and honey soaked 25 big plates full.

  7. Pretty cover on the book. My favorite Christmas treat is my mother-in-law’s fudge. She mails it to us every year!

  8. my favorite / families favorite treat for Christmas are the home made, hand dipped chocolates that I make. I have taken on the tradition from my Mother – she would dip 10’s of thousands every year and gave every piece out (to friends, family, elderly, basically any one she wanted to). I made almost 3000 this year and it’s only my 3rd year doing it. It’s the perfect familiy treat to snack on while (plate with a variety of kinds on the coffee table) we are sitting there watching our fav Christmas movie or reading a story on Christmas Eve wtih the kids and grand kids. I watch and see which one they choose…they all have thier own favorite kind. What a tribute to my parents to keep this going. Hopefully one day, one of my kids will do the same.

  9. Our close family friend makes a platter FULL of yummies every holiday season for my family, including smooth on the outside, but crunchy on the inside, chocolate and peanut butter balls. I always know I will give into them – but definitely look forward to seeing them on that cute new plate she puts them on each year!
